In all the eons of history there has never been a story told the way you tell it.
You've worked hard, and created a wonderful tale that is begging to be shared. The time has come to transform your work from manuscript to publication. As soon as you're ready, BookWyrm Editing is here. Exceptional Editing at Affordable Prices Hi, name is Susan Sernau. Editing fiction is a passion of mine. There is really no other place that I can give free reign to my fascination with watching Story emerge from a bunch of squiggles on the page. I thrive on the problem solving that goes with showing writers ways to strengthen the structure, dabble with the dialog and smooth away the questionable quirks that make a story wobble. Nothing makes my day faster than helping writers experience the intoxicating sense of power that comes from coaxing out hidden nuances or cadences from the narrative, or finding techniques to push reluctant characters into the limelight. The most exciting part, I think, is being a part of the process of helping others create new stories for people to love.
I've been working with writers since the late eighties. I began my career in the classroom, finding ways to entice emerging writers to write with both skill and joy. It takes very little, I found, to invite most students to write. The adventure begins with building confidence and learning the tools of the craft in a way that inspires and excites writers over the long haul. Teaching is where my life as a writing coach began. After teaching I did freelance writing and editing for a number of publishers, including Scholastic, Houghten Mifflin, and Oxford University Press, where I received a front-row education in how the publishing world works. Somewhere along the way I picked up an advanced degree and subsequently spent several years as an associate professor, teaching language arts to education candidates who needed to be able to teach the craft of writing to others. During that time I also wrote a couple of novels and sailed around the world twice. On the last voyage, I explored the storytelling traditions and folklore in the countries that we visited and collected a large random assortment of tidbits for my next novel. Interested? I hope to hear from you soon. |
In my spare time, I'm a world traveler. This is me on a sunny day in Ghana.
